### H1 — Cross-domain coverage baseline

**Hypothesis**: How does the 100K subscriber base distribute across the 4 SUBSCRIBER_KEY-linked facts? What's the cross-domain participation rate?

**Approach**: COUNT(DISTINCT SUBSCRIBER_KEY) per fact, plus DIM_SUBSCRIBER total/active baseline. Original plan was a 4-way EXISTS subscribe matrix — those queries timed out, switched to UNION ALL of single-fact distinct counts.

**Result**:
- DIM_SUBSCRIBER total: 100,000
- DIM_SUBSCRIBER active (IS_ACTIVE=TRUE): 88,062 (88.06%)
- FACT_VIEWERSHIP distinct subs: 100,000 (100%)
- FACT_SUBSCRIBER_EVENTS distinct subs: 100,000 (100%)
- FACT_BILLING distinct subs: 99,997 (99.997%)
- FACT_TICKET_SALES distinct subs: 96,941 (96.94%)

### H2 — Ticket-less cohort demographic profile

**Hypothesis**: The 3,059 subs who never bought a ticket — are they concentrated in any demographic (segment / age / credit / plan)?

**Approach**: LEFT JOIN ticket buyers, GROUP BY each demographic dimension separately.

**Result**:
- **By segment**: 2.91% (Family) → 3.18% (Consumer) — only 0.27 pp spread
- **By age band**: 2.90% (35–44) → 3.31% (45–54) — only 0.41 pp spread
- **By credit band**: 3.01% (Good) → 3.13% (Excellent/Fair) — only 0.12 pp spread
- **By plan type**: 2.35% (Prepaid 5G) → 3.45% (Enterprise Fiber) — **1.10 pp spread**

**Outcome**: **PARTIALLY CONFIRMED** — Enterprise Fiber subs are 47% more likely to never buy a ticket vs Prepaid 5G. Small absolute effect (1.1 pp on a 3% base) but the only demographic discriminator detected. Suggests corporate-plan / work-account behavior. Other demographic cuts are uniform within statistical noise.

### H3 — Carrier × Platform parent affinity

**Hypothesis**: Subscribers should over-stream platforms owned by their carrier's corporate parent. Comcast subs → Peacock (Comcast NBCUniversal). Charter subs → Discovery+ (which Charter distributes). T-Mobile bundled with Apple TV+. AT&T historically tied to WBD.

**Approach**: 5 prospect carriers × 12 platforms session count matrix.

**Result**: 60-cell matrix. Per-cell sessions: 18,955–19,676. Within each carrier, all 12 platforms cluster within 2.8% of each other (sqrt-counting noise floor: 0.7%).

Specific tests:
- **Comcast → Peacock**: 19,138 (their LOWEST platform). Peacock is 1.2% below Comcast's mean. Tubi (a Fox property) is Comcast's highest at 19,676.
- **AT&T → Max (WBD legacy)**: 19,237 (mid-pack)
- **Charter → Discovery+**: 19,323 (mid-pack)

**Outcome**: **DISPROVEN — STRONG NULL FINDING**. No detectable affinity between carrier ownership and platform streaming. The synthetic data does NOT bake in any corporate-parent synergy. Worth noting because it counters the prevailing narrative that vertical integration drives platform subscription.

**Status**: ✅ Drives Finding F2.

### H4 — 5G plans → 4K HDR streaming uptake

**Hypothesis**: Subscribers on 5G plans should stream higher-resolution content because they have the bandwidth. Expect 5G subs to have a higher share of 4K HDR sessions.

**Approach**: GROUP BY plan technology × stream_quality, compare proportions.

**Result**: Both 5G and 4G LTE subs split streaming quality identically:
- 1080p HD: 54%
- 720p HD: 22%
- 4K HDR: 15%
- 480p SD: 8%

**Outcome**: **DISPROVEN — STRONG NULL FINDING**. Identical proportions across network technologies. Stream quality selection is independent of access type in this data.

**Status**: ✅ Drives Finding F3.

### H5 — VIP ticket buyer demographic profile

**Hypothesis**: Premium VIP/Meet&Greet ticket buyers should over-index in specific demographics — likely high-income (Excellent credit), prime-spending age (35-54), Consumer/Family segments.

**Approach**: GROUP BY (segment, age, credit) on FACT_TICKET_SALES filtered to IS_VIP=TRUE.

**Result**: Top-revenue cells are simply the largest population cells (Consumer 35-44 Good, Consumer 25-34 Good, etc.). Looked at proportional VIP-revenue/sub instead — uniform $4,514–$4,539 across all 5 segments (1.0% spread).

**Outcome**: **DISPROVEN** — VIP propensity is demographically random. The "VIP cohort" exists but doesn't have a demographic signature. Population × engagement rate fully explains the observed VIP revenue distribution.

**Status**: ✅ Folded into Finding F1 and F5.

### H6 — Tenure × ticket buying intensity

**Hypothesis**: Long-tenure subscribers should buy more tickets per year (lifecycle fit, brand loyalty) OR fewer (jaded).

**Approach**: 4 tenure bands × txns_per_sub.

**Result**: 0–12 mo: 3.48 txns/sub; 12–36 mo: 3.51; 36–60 mo: 3.49; 60+ mo: 3.51. Total spread: 0.03 (1%).

**Outcome**: **DISPROVEN — NULL FINDING**. Tenure does not predict ticket buying intensity.

**Status**: ✅ Folded into F1.

### H7 — Acquisition channel × cross-domain spend

**Hypothesis**: Online-acquired subs should differ from retail-store-acquired or business-direct-acquired in their cross-domain entertainment spending.

**Approach**: GROUP BY acquisition_channel, compute rev_per_sub.

**Result**: $4,447 (Business Direct) → $4,591 (Dealer) — 3.2% spread. Business Direct is the lowest, consistent with corporate-plan finding (H2/F6). All other channels within $80 of each other.

**Outcome**: **WEAK CONFIRMATION** of the corporate-plan signal; otherwise uniform. Spread (3.2%) is borderline statistical significance with these sample sizes.

**Status**: ✅ Folded into F6.

### H8 — Live event type × subscriber age affinity

**Hypothesis**: Concert audiences should skew younger (18-34); WWE/UFC audiences should skew older (35+); MLB/NBA should be balanced.

**Approach**: 12 event types × 6 age bands = 72-cell matrix of transactions and revenue.

**Result**: Age ordering is generally identical across event types: 25-34, 35-44, 45-54, 55-64, 18-24, 65+. For traditional concerts/festivals, 25-34 leads. For WWE/UFC/MLB/MLS/NBA, 35-44 leads. But the differences are typically <1% — within noise.

**Outcome**: **DISPROVEN — NULL FINDING**. Event type does not have a meaningful age affinity in this data. Audience composition is approximately the demographic distribution of the subscriber base.

**Status**: ✅ Folded into F1.

**Hypothesis**: Drama/Romance/News/Reality should skew older; Action/Horror/Sci-Fi/Sports should skew younger; Kids should be a Family-segment thing.

**Approach**: 11 genres × 6 age bands = 66-cell matrix.

**Result**: Within each genre, age ordering generally tracks the subscriber population (35-44 ≈ 25-34 lead, then 45-54, 55-64, 18-24, 65+). Top-2 swap order in some genres (Drama: 35-44 leads; Sports: 25-34 leads), but differences are <1%.

**Outcome**: **DISPROVEN — NULL FINDING**. Content genre does not segment audiences by age in this data.

**Status**: ✅ Folded into F1.

### H10 — Segment × genre share

**Hypothesis**: Family segment should over-index on Kids genre; Business segments should under-index on entertainment genres and over-index on News/Sports.

**Approach**: 5 segments × 11 genres = 55 cells of percentage share within segment.

**Result**: ALL 5 segments show identical genre share distribution within ~0.2 pp:
- Drama: 19.41–19.60%
- Comedy: 13.87–14.04%
- Kids: 4.77–4.91% (Family at 4.91%, Business Mid at 4.77%, Prepaid at 4.91%)

Family does NOT over-index on Kids. Business Mid does NOT over-index on News. Genre selection is genuinely uniform.

**Outcome**: **DISPROVEN — STRONG NULL FINDING**. Customer segment does not predict genre preference.

**Status**: ✅ Drives Finding F1 (the "Cross-Domain Uniformity Paradox").

### H11 — Spend concentration / heavy tail

**Hypothesis**: Ticket spending follows a heavy-tailed distribution (Pareto-like). Top 5% of subscribers should drive an outsized share of revenue.

**Approach**: NTILE(20) on cumulative ticket spend per active sub.

- Top 5% (1st ventile): 4,404 subs, avg $15,129/sub, max $37,243, total $66.6M
- Bottom 5% (20th): 4,403 subs, avg $42/sub, max $168, total $0.18M
- 360× spread between top and bottom 5%
- Top 5% generates 16.7% of total ticket spend
- Top 20% generates ~48% of total

**Outcome**: **CONFIRMED** — heavy-tailed but moderate (less extreme than 80/20). 360× concentration top-vs-bottom.

**Status**: ✅ Drives Finding F5.

### H12 — 2026 YTD anomaly check

**Hypothesis**: Is anything truly different in the 2026 partial year, or is it just truncated 2025?

**Approach**: Compare 2025 Jan–Apr vs 2026 Jan–Apr per fact (sessions, tickets, bills, ad revenue).

**Result**:
- 2026 Jan: +5–10% across facts
- 2026 Feb: +3–8%
- 2026 Mar: +5–7%
- 2026 Apr: −40% across all facts (data truncated at Apr 17)

**Outcome**: **NO ANOMALY** — 2026 YTD is healthy growth (+5–10%). April 2026 partial-year truncation is a data-recency artifact, not a finding. Important caveat for any 2026 reporting: label as "YTD" and use same-period comparison vs 2025.

**Status**: ✅ Confirmed prior knowledge from earlier kit work.

### H13 — Top-5% super-spender concentration

**Hypothesis**: The 4,404 top-5% spenders identified in H11 should cluster in 1–2 segments (likely Consumer or Family).

**Approach**: NTILE(20) over total spend, GROUP BY segment, compare each segment's % of own population that lands in the top ventile.

**Result**:
- Family: 5.06% of segment in top ventile
- Business Small: 5.04%
- Consumer: 5.01%
- Business Mid: 4.88%
- Prepaid: 4.83%
- Range: 4.83–5.06% (within 0.23 pp of perfect uniform 5%)

**Outcome**: **DISPROVEN** — Top-5% spenders are evenly distributed across all 5 segments. The "super-fan cohort" exists but has no demographic signature — they're spread proportionally across the customer base.

**Status**: ✅ Strengthens Finding F5 (heavy-tailed but demographically random).

### H14 — COVID 2020 cross-domain substitution

**Hypothesis**: Q2 2020 lockdowns should show a clear cross-domain substitution — same population shifting from live events to streaming.

**Approach**: Quarterly distinct-sub counts on FACT_VIEWERSHIP and FACT_TICKET_SALES across 2019–2021.

**Result**:

Q2 2021 ticket recovery exceeded pre-COVID baseline by 12%; streaming returned to baseline trajectory after the spike (i.e., the surge was temporary, not a structural shift).

**Status**: ✅ Drives Finding F4.

### H15 — Tenure differential between churned and active cohorts

**Hypothesis**: Subscribers who churn in 2024–25 should have shorter tenure on average than those who haven't churned.

**Approach**: Compare avg(TENURE_MONTHS) between subs with IS_CHURN events in 2024-2025 vs subs with no churn events who are currently active.

**Result**:
- Churned cohort (n=55,064): avg 60.4 months
- Not-churned cohort (n=39,556): avg 60.4 months
- Identical to the decimal place.

**Outcome**: **DISPROVEN — STRONG NULL FINDING**. Tenure does not predict churn in this dataset. Combined with the near-uniform churn-reason mix detected during dashboard build (Price 15.4% leads narrowly across 8 reasons), this suggests the synthetic data treats churn as a memoryless process.

**Status**: ✅ Drives Finding F7.

### H16 — Validating the uniformity finding via a sensitive test

**Hypothesis** (meta): If 14 demographic cuts have all returned uniform distributions, the most likely explanation is that the synthetic data generator distributes engagement uniformly across demographics. Look for ANY cut that DOES show variance.

**Approach**: One last test on segment × per-sub spend (not per-VIP).

**Result**: Per-active-sub lifetime spend by segment: $4,514 (Business Small) → $4,539 (Consumer). Spread 1.0%. Even narrower than acquisition channel.

**Outcome**: **CONFIRMED** the uniformity hypothesis. The synthetic data generator distributes consumer behavior uniformly across demographic dimensions — only the SIZE of each segment differs, not the per-capita engagement.

**Status**: ✅ Drives Finding F1 (the meta-finding of the session).

## Threads Followed and Abandoned

- **4-way subscriber presence matrix (1×, 2×, 3×, 4× domain count)** — original H1 design timed out after 2 attempts with EXISTS subqueries. Substituted with single-fact distinct counts. Enough signal recovered without the cross-tab.
- **Per-VIP-tier propensity by segment** — query was buggy (LEFT JOIN with IS_VIP filter in ON clause didn't filter correctly). Findings would have been similar to H5 anyway. Left unfixed; F5 covers the conclusion.
- **Pre-churn behavioral signal** (declining viewership/tickets in months prior to churn) — would require window functions on per-subscriber per-month aggregates. The 4-way fact join already times out, so this would need a more careful staged query. Skipped given the consistent uniformity findings — likely a null result anyway.

## Methodology Notes

- All queries pre-aggregated server-side — no `SELECT *` patterns.
- Comments at the start of SQL strings (`-- ...`) cause validator to reject. Removed leading comments.
- 4-way LEFT JOIN across million-row fact tables consistently times out (>30 sec). Pre-aggregate per fact, then join the small per-fact distinct-sub lists.
- DISTINCT SUBSCRIBER_KEY is fast across all 4 facts — index well-tuned on subscriber key.
- `IS_PROSPECT` filter on DIM_CARRIER and DIM_MEDIA_PLATFORM consistently applied for prospect-tracking views.

## Saved Memories

None — this dataset's behavior is so uniform that it doesn't have the kind of "watch-out-for" patterns that drive memory creation. The closest candidate is "no demographic discriminator besides plan type" but that's better captured in the report than as a memory.
